Fausto Carmona pitched five shutout innings to help guide the Cleveland Indians to a 4-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday.
Russell Branyan belted a two-run homer and Asdrubal Cabrera had a pair of hits and drove in two runs to account for the offense in Cleveland’s third straight win.
Carmona (4-1) turned in another solid effort in scattering five hits and striking out and walking two batters each. Aaron Laffey, Chris Perez and Tony Sipp combined for four scoreless innings of relief to preserve victory.
The Indians did all their damage on two hits in two innings. Cabrera brought home Johnny Peralta and Mark Grudzielanek with a fifth-inning single and Branyan scored Austin Kearns with his two-run blast an inning later.
Kansas City starter Kyle Davies (2-2) went five innings, allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
Scott Podsednik, Mike Aviles and Alberto Callaspo each had two hits for the Royals, who dropped their seventh in a row.
Two rain delays halted action for a combined 96 minutes,
