The Los Angeles Angels got back in the win column on Wednesday with a 5-3 victory over the New York Yankees.
Joel Pineiro (1-1) won his first game with the Angels, allowing one run on five hits in seven innings.
Fernando Rodney got his first save of the year with a perfect ninth while filling in for the injured Brian Fuentes.
Erick Aybar got things started for the Angels with an run-scoring single in the third and Bobby Abreu followed with an RBI double for a 2-0 lead.
Nick Swisher had an RBI triple in the fifth for the Yankees, but the Angels extended their lead to 4-1 in the sixth on an RBI double by Kendry Morales and a single by Maicer Izturis.
The Yankees made things interesting in the bottom of the eighth when Nick Johnson singled home Brett Gardner and Mark Teixeira picked up an RBI on a ground out to make it 5-3, but they got no closer
Javier Vazquez (0-2) pitched better than he did in his season debut, but allowed four earned runs on six hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings.
