Curtis Granderson led off the 10th inning with a home run to carry the New York Yankees to a 6-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night.
The Yankees scratched across a run in the ninth to even the score and force extras on a sacrifice fly by Alex Rodriguez as Aaron Heilman blew his third save.
Granderson then pushed them ahead with his seventh homer off Carlos Rosa (0-2) an inning later.
Rodriguez finished with two RBIs and Nick Swisher, Brett Gardner and Colin Curtis each drove in one run apiece as the Yankees took two of three to open their six-game West Coast swing.
Mariano Rivera (1-1) worked the last two innings, allowing two hits and striking out two for the win.
Adam LaRoche carried Arizona offensively with five RBIs, including a pair of two-run singles in the first and fourth innings, before giving his team a 5-4 edge with a groundout in the sixth.
Diamondbacks starter Dontrelle Willis, making his fourth start since being acquired from Detroit, lasted just 2 1/3 innings after walking seven batters and giving up two runs.
New York starter Javier Vazquez allowed four runs on six hits in five innings of the no-decision.
