Aaron Cunningham belted his first career grand slam to lead the San Diego Padres to an 8-2 drubbing of the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Cunningham had just two at-bats on the season prior to Tuesday when he sent a Brett Cecil offering over the center field wall to open the scoring in the second inning.

The former Oakland Athletics outfielder improved to 3-for-5 all-time with the bases loaded.

Catcher Nick Hundley added three hits and two runs scored as the Padres avenged a 6-3 defeat to Toronto in Monday's series opener.

Jerry Hairston, Jr. had two hits and scored twice, while David Eckstein chipped in with a two-run single in San Diego's three-run eighth inning.

Mat Latos (7-4) was the beneficiary of the San Diego outburst, pitching into the seventh inning to earn his fourth win in the past five starts. Latos limited Toronto to two runs on four hits, walking one and striking out seven.

Cecil (7-3) had his worst outing in over a month, surrendering five runs on seven hits in six innings. He saw his five-game winning streak come to an end.
