Chris Young and Augie Ojeda drove in runs in the top of the 11th inning to propel the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 9-7 marathon victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday.
With one out and the bases full, Young singled to left field off Russ Ortiz (0-1) to break the stalemate and Ojeda followed suit with a sacrifice fly.
The game lasted over five hours, featured 34 hits and a combined 16 pitchers.
Leo Rosales (1-0) pitched the two extra-inning frames, allowing only two hits, to earn the win.
Matt Kemp homered and drove in three runs and Manny Ramirez was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI for the Dodgers, who rallied back to tie the score at 7-7 in the bottom of the ninth on Casey Blake’s double.
The Diamondbacks dug out of deficits of 3-0 and 5-3 to grab a one-run lead in the seventh on Justin Upton’s towering home run to center field.
Adam LaRoche finished with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored and Stephen Drew had three hits, including a homer, for Arizona.
