The Arizona Diamondbacks returned home after the worst road trip in franchise history and put to end a 10-game losing streak with a 7-6 win Friday night over the Colorado Rockies.
Ryan Roberts hit a one-out single to center field in the ninth inning off Manny Corpas (1-3) to end the streak, which included a 0-9 road trip, and start a home stand in the right direction.
The rally started with Mark Reynolds getting hit in the hand as he was then removed for pinch-runner Edwin Jackson. Young followed with an infield single off third baseman Ian Stewart’s glove and outfielder Gerardo Parra came up with a single to left to tie it at 6-6 as Jackson scored.
It set the stage for Roberts’ game-winner to keep the Diamondbacks from tying the 11-game losing streak the 2004 club suffered through.
The Rockies broke open a 3-3 game when Stewart connected on a three-run home run in the sixth inning off starter Ian Kennedy. The runs were unearned because of an error by second baseman Kelly Johnson.
The Diamondbacks battled back as Young homered in the sixth and Reynolds’ hit his second sacrifice fly of the game to close within 6-5.
Chad Qualls (1-2) earned the win with an inning of relief.
