Jim Edmonds scored on Chris Heisey’s bunt single in the top of the ninth for the go-ahead run as the Cincinnati Reds completed a comeback with eight late runs to pull out an 11-7 triumph over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
Jay Bruce went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs and Jim Edmonds added a solo shot as the Reds won their fifth straight game. Laynce Nix drove in three runs and four others had one RBI apiece.
This one didn’t come easy as the Reds dug out of a 7-3 deficit, thanks in part to a four-run eighth that helped even things up heading into the ninth.
Edmonds quickly got to Aaron Heilman by doubling to deep right to open the frame. Following a groundout that moved Edmonds to third, Heisey came on as a pinch-hitter and placed a perfect bunt to snap the tie.
The Reds added three more runs of cushion to make a winner of Arthur Rhodes (4-3).
Chris Young and Adam LaRoche each belted two-run homers to help Arizona build up a four-run advantage through the seventh after trailing 3-1 in the early going. Justin Upton added a pair of RBIs and Gerardo Parra drove in a run in the losing effort.
Heilman (3-4) was tagged for four runs on five hits in just 1 1/3 innings of relief.
