Johan Santana continued his superb pitching and Jason Bay had a three-run double as the New York Mets snapped a four-game losing streak with a 6-1 victory over the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night.
Santana (8-5) allowed one run and five hits over seven innings during his fifth consecutive strong start. Santana has allowed just three runs in his last 38 innings.
New York broke open a close game by scoring four runs in the eighth despite having just one hit in the inning.
Four Mets drew walks in the innings. David Wright hit a sacrifice fly for one run and Bay delivered a bases-clearing double to right-center field.
Ike Davis hit his 14th homer of the season in the second inning for New York.
The lone Los Angeles run off Santana came on a sacrifice fly by Jamey Carroll in the fifth.
Dodgers starter Vicente Padilla (4-3) allowed two runs – one earned – and six hits in seven innings.
