Yovanni Gallardo was sharp in six innings and the Milwaukee Brewers scored nine runs in the eighth inning of Monday’s 17-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Greg Zaun went 4-for-4 with five RBIs and Casey McGehee belted a grand slam in the Brewers’ second dominating performance against the Pirates in less than week.
The Brewers recorded a 20-0 victory last Thursday.
Gallardo (2-2) allowed two unearned runs with four strikeouts and chipped in at the plate with a three RBIs.
Zaun hit a two-run double, Alcides Escobar added a two-run homer, Prince Fielder had an RBI single and McGehee cleared the bases in the eighth with his grand slam for the 17-2 lead.
The Brewers broke through with a pair of runs in the second inning when Gallardo helped his own cause by belting a two-run double off Pittsburgh starter Zach Duke (2-2) for a 2-0 lead.
Andrew McCutchen drove in a pair of fourth-inning runs for the Pirates to cut the lead to 7-2.
