Steven Pearce had three hits and an RBI and Andy LaRoche drove in a run on two hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates downed the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-4, on Wednesday.
Four different players scored a run and drove in a run and Brian Burres managed a quality start for the Pirates, who have won four of six.
Pearce doubled twice off Milwaukee starter Randy Wolf (3-4) and capped Pittsburgh's scoring with an RBI single in the seventh. It was the first multi-hit game of the season for Pearce, who was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on May 5.
The Pirates jumped on the struggling Wolf in the second inning, pushing across two runs on LaRoche's RBI groundout and Ronny Cedeno's sacrifice fly. After the Brewers tied it up with two runs in the fourth, Burres helped his own cause with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame that scored LaRoche.
Casey McGehee accounted for a pair of runs for Milwaukee with a solo homer in the sixth and an RBI single in the seventh, but Pittsburgh pushed across three in the bottom of the seventh to forge the lead. Garrett Jones, Ryan Doumit and Pearce recorded RBIs in the frame.
Three relievers -- including Javier Lopez (1-0) -- bridged the gap to closer Octavio Dotel, who retired the middle of the Milwaukee order in the ninth for his ninth save.
