Phillies 6, Twins 1:
Jim Thome smacked a three-run homer and Joe Blanton pitched his second complete game of the season to lead visiting Philadelphia.

Thome’s three-run homer in the third inning was the 607th of his career and snapped a 1-1 tie as the Phillies won for just the third time in 12 games.

Trevor Plouffe homered in the second for Minnesota’s lone run. The third baseman has gone deep five times over his last six contests.

Blanton (6-6) allowed one run and seven hits while winning his second straight start. He struck out seven and walked none en route to his eighth career complete game.

Ty Wigginton homered in the second off Minnesota starter Scott Diamond to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead. Plouffe tied the score in the bottom of the inning with his 12th shot of the year.

Jimmy Rollins doubled for one of his three hits and Hunter Pence walked prior to Thome delivering a mammoth blast to center that gave the Phillies a 4-1 lead.

Carlos Ruiz added a run-scoring double in the eighth and Placido Polanco delivered an RBI single in the ninth.

Diamond (5-2) allowed four runs and five hits in six innings.
