Twins 6, Angels 5: Chris Parmelee hit a two-run triple and Jamey Carroll singled home the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the host Twins avoided their first 0-5 start in team history.
The Twins, who scored a total of six runs in their first four games, trailed 5-3 before opening the bottom of the seventh with three straight hits, capped by Parmelee’s first career triple off Hisanori Takahashi (0-1).
Josh Willingham blasted his third homer in the fourth inning off Jared Weaver to give the Twins a 3-1 lead before Peter Bourjos drove in three with his inside-the-park home run in the fifth.
Jeff Gray (1-0) retired one batter in the seventh inning to earn the win, and Matt Capps worked around Torii Hunter’s double in the ninth for his first save.
Albert Pujols’ average dropped to .222 after going 1-for-4, although he drove in the Angels’ first run with a single in the fourth inning.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Hunter stayed in the game after colliding with the right field fence on Parmelee’s triple. … Bourjos’ inside-the-park home run was the second in Target Field history. … Weaver, who pitched eight shutout innings with 10 strikeouts on opening day against the Royals, gave up five runs over six innings.
