Nick Markakis delivered the tiebreaking two-run single and Miguel Gonzalez pitched eight strong innings as Baltimore beat Los Angeles for the second straight day.

Manny Machado drove in Baltimore’s first run and Jim Johnson allowed a run-scoring single to Albert Pujols in the ninth before striking out Mark Trumbo with the tying run on base for his 23th save in 27 opportunities. The Orioles won their third straight game while the Angels fell for the fourth consecutive contest.

Gonzalez (4-2) gave up one run and four hits, allowing a fourth-inning homer to Mike Trout. He struck out five and walked one while winning his second consecutive start.

Baltimore loaded the bases in the seventh with three consecutive two-out infield singles against Jason Vargas (5-4). Scott Downs entered and Markakis greeted him with the decisive hit into right-center field to drive in Danny Valencia and Steve Pearce to give the Orioles a 3-1 edge.

Vargas was charged with three runs and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings. He had won five consecutive decisions.
