Rays 3, White Sox 1: Chris Archer allowed two hits in 6 1/3 scoreless innings and Nick Franklin slugged a two-run homer as host Tampa Bay topped Chicago.
Ben Zobrist delivered an RBI single while James Loney doubled and scored for the Rays, who host the White Sox on Sunday to finish their home schedule. Archer (10-8) walked four and struck out three while setting a career high in victories.
Hector Noesi (8-11) was handed the loss after permitting three runs and six hits in six innings. Marcus Semien had a pinch-hit run-scoring single in the top of the ninth but Chicago could not manage anything else in losing for the 11th time in its last 14 road games.
Franklin followed Loney's leadoff double in the second with a blast to right – his first home run since Aug. 29, 2013. Yunel Escobar began Tampa Bay's half of the fifth with a base hit, moved to second on a walk and raced in on Zobrist's single to right for a 3-0 lead.
Archer issued two of his four walks to begin the seventh before getting the first out and giving way to Joel Peralta, who stranded runners at the corners. Jake McGee walked a pair and gave up Semien's RBI single to center in the ninth before locking down his 18th save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Tampa Bay pitchers combined to record five strikeouts, giving the club 1,380 on the year – sixth-most in major-league history. ... 1B Jose Abreu and RF Avisail Garcia had the other two hits for Chicago, both singles. ... Chicago has not won a road series since July 29-31 in Detroit.
