Gregory Polanco and Kevin Newman each drove in two runs and Wil Crowe pitched six scoreless innings Friday as the Pittsburgh Pirates busted out of a four-game losing streak with a 7-0 win over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies.
Crowe (3-5) combined with relievers Chasen Shreve and Duane Underwood Jr. on a one-hit shutout. Crowe walked four and struck out four.
Bryan Reynolds added an RBI triple and Rodolfo Castro and Ke'Bryan Hayes each hit an RBI double for the Pirates, who had lost eight of their previous 10 games.
Alec Bohm led off the second with a single for the Phillies' only hit of the night.
Philadelphia starter Vince Velasquez (3-6) lasted just two innings, allowing five runs and six hits with one walk and one strikeout.
In the first, Ben Gamel doubled to right and scored on Reynolds' one-out triple to right-center for a 1-0 Pirates lead. Polanco followed with a base hit to right to drive home Reynolds.
After John Nogowski walked and Jacob Stallings lined out, Castro hit a fly ball to deep right-center, where Bryce Harper misjudged it, allowing it to bounce on the warning track and into the stands for an RBI double.
It was Castro's sixth major league hit, the first that wasn't a homer.
Velasquez hit Crowe in the back of the left arm leading off the second. After Gamel popped out, Crowe chugged home on Hayes' double to left-center to increase Pittsburgh's lead to 4-0. Polanco's two-out double off the wall in right brought Hayes home.
Against Chase Anderson in the fifth, Polanco walked and went to second on Nogowski's groundout. Stallings walked. Castro moved the runners to second and third on a groundout before Newman's double to center pushed them both home for a 7-0 advantage.
In their previous game, Thursday against Washington, the Phillies came back from a seven-run deficit for a walk-off win, but they couldn't produce a repeat Friday.
