Keaton Nankivil scored a season-high 22 points as No. 10 Wisconsin jumped out early and cruised to its 14th consecutive home win against Penn State, 76-66, Sunday night at Kohl Center.
Jon Leuer finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds for the Badgers (20-6, 10-4 Big Ten), who stand alone in third place in the conference after an 18th straight home win and a season split with the Nittany Lions. Penn State beat Wisconsin 56-52 three weeks ago.
Big Ten scoring co-leader Talor Battle scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half as the Lions (14-12, 7-8) had their two-game winning streak snapped and missed out on an excellent chance to bolster their NCAA Tournament resume. Penn State, winless at Kohl Center since 1995, dropped its seventh straight road game against top-25 teams in the last two years.
Nankivil, who entered averaging 9.3 points for the season and shooting just 4 of 20 from the arc in his last three games, connected on 8 of 9 shots, including all five 3-pointers he attempted.
The senior drained three 3-pointers in the first six minutes as Wisconsin jumped to an early 17-8 lead. His four-point play three minutes into the second half extended the lead to 41-24. The Nittany Lions didn’t threaten thereafter.
