Okaro White scored 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting to help No. 24 Florida State hold off pesky Stetson, 79-66 on Wednesday.
Bernard James recorded a second straight double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds for Seminoles (3-0), who recorded a 17th straight win over Stetson despite an uneven performance.
Picked to finish last in the Atlantic Sun, the Stetson was seeking its best start since 1952-53.
The Seminoles rolled to a 73-50 victory over Central Florida on Monday and got off to a fast start in this one, but couldn’t put away the feisty Hatters (2-1).
Joel Naburgs scored 14 points for Stetson, which was able to hang around thanks to 10 3-pointers. They trailed 62-54 with around nine minutes left before the Seminoles used an 11-3 spurt to gain separation.
The Hatters hadn't beaten Florida State since 1975, and they would be run off the court early. The Seminoles used a 23-7 run to take a 33-14 lead with under seven minutes left in the first half. Stetson, however, got hot from beyond the arc and trailed by just eight at 42-34 after 20 minutes. Seven of its 12 first-half field goals were 3-pointers.
