North Carolina 82, Boston College 70: James Michael McAdoo recorded 17 points and 10 rebounds for the visiting Tar Heels, who won their fourth ACC game in five chances despite losing third-leading scorer P.J. Hairston.

Hairston was taken off on a stretcher and diagnosed with a concussion after a mid-air, head-to-head collision with Dexter Strickland late in the first half. Hairston made four 3-pointers in a span of 3:53 to turn an 8-2 North Carolina deficit 4:30 into regulation into a 21-12 edge. He finished with 14 points on 4-for-5 shooting before going down.

Strickland added 14 points for the Tar Heels (14-6, 4-3), who led by 15 points at halftime and never fewer than 10 in the second half. North Carolina was 7-for-13 from 3-point range and outrebounded Boston College 37-26.

Freshman Olivier Hanlan matched a career high with 22 points to pace the Eagles (9-11, 1-6). Ryan Anderson chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds, and Patrick Heckmann came off the bench to score 12.

Anderson made a free throw to pull Boston College within 74-64 with 2:59 left, but Jackson Simmons made a layup with 1:06 remaining and Strickland went 4-for-4 from the foul line in the final 53 seconds later to seal the victory.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hairston fell backward after hitting Strickland and banged his head on the floor. After attempting to walk back to the locker room with the help of two teammates, he appeared woozy was helped back to the ground until being carried off. ... McAdoo logged his third double-double in four games and seventh of the season. ... North Carolina assisted on 20 of 30 baskets. The Tar Heels entered Tuesday ranked second in the nation in assists (18.3 per game).
