Chris Denson had 23 points and KT Harrell added 17 points and 10
rebounds as the Tigers pulled away for a home win over the Racers.
Tahj Shamsid-Deen had 11 points
and Asauhn Dixon-Tatum added 10 for Auburn (3-1), which outrebounded
Murray State 41-31. Allen Payne added seven points and 10 boards for
the Tigers.
Cameron Payne and Jeffery Moss
each scored 16 points to lead Murray State (2-3), which made just 10-of-21 free-throw attempts. Jarvis Williams finished with 13 points and
nine rebounds.
It was a one-point game with
just over eight minutes to play in the first half before the Tigers
went on an 11-3 run to open up a nine-point advantage. But the Racers
ended the half on an 8-3 streak to cut the lead to four on Moss' jumper at the
buzzer.
The lead was two again with nine
minutes to go when Auburn used a 12-2 run to take control of the
game. Murray State fought back to within six twice in the last two
minutes, but it never got closer.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Tigers
continued to struggle from 3-point range, shooting 4-of-18 from
beyond the arc. … The Racers' leading scorer, Dexter Fields, was
held to his season low in scoring with seven points on 2-of-8
shooting. … Auburn now leads the all-time series 3-1.
