Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw combined to top the 200-yard rushing mark for the second straight week and the New York Giants’ defense shut down the Brett Favre-less Minnesota Vikings 21-3 on Monday night.
The game, originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon in Minnesota, was changed to Ford Field in Detroit because of a leaky roof in the Metrodome that was caused by a heavy snowstorm.
New York (9-4) is tied with Philadelphia (9-4) atop the NFC East, although the Eagles won the first matchup between the teams, and is battling New Orleans (10-3), Green Bay (8-5) and Tampa Bay (8-5) for two wild-card berths.
New York has critical games with Philadelphia and at Green Bay before concluding the season in Washington. The Eagles conclude their season with New York, Minnesota and Dallas.
Favre had started 297 consecutive games dating to 1992, but he was not able to bounce back quickly enough from a shoulder injury sustained in the first quarter last week against the Buffalo Bills.
Tarvaris Jackson was ineffective in his stead, completing 15 of 30 for 118 yards. Minnesota managed just 164 yards of total offense
Jacobs had 116 yards on 14 carries, including a 73-yard run in the first quarter that set up his 1-yard touchdown run that opened the scoring.
Bradshaw finished with 103 yards on 11 carries and scored on a 48-yard run in the third quarter to increase the lead to 21-3. He suffered a forearm injury, but the severity was unknown
The duo combined for 200 yards and four TDs in a 31-7 win against Washington last week.
