Panthers 38, Giants 0: Cam Newton threw three touchdown passes and added a rushing score as host Carolina rolled to the most lopsided victory in franchise history.
Newton hooked up with Brandon LaFell for scoring strikes of 16 and 20 yards and hit Ted Ginn Jr. with a 47-yard bomb while DeAngelo Williams racked up 120 yards on 23 carries for Carolina (1-2). The Panthers' largest margin of victory - and their most recent shutout - had been a 34-0 win over Kansas City in 2008.
New York's offense sputtered, managing only 150 total yards as the Giants fell to 0-3 for the first time since 1996. Eli Manning was 12-for-23 for 119 yards and threw an interception, and the Giants had just 60 rushing yards on 16 attempts.
The Panthers tied a franchise record with seven sacks and the inexperienced secondary performed well as cornerback Melvin White recorded an interception and a forced fumble and fellow undrafted rookie Robert Lester had an interception and a fumble recovery.
Carolina scored touchdowns on four straight possessions spanning the second and third quarters to turn it into a rout. Newton found LaFell for touchdowns on the Panthers' last drive of the first half and their opening possession of the second half, and White's interception set up Newton's 3-yard scoring run to make it 31-0.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Panthers WR Steve Smith caught three passes for 40 yards and has at least one reception in 94 consecutive games dating to 2006. … Newton has 23 rushing touchdowns, already the most by a quarterback through his first three seasons in the NFL. … The Giants had won at least five of their first seven games in each season since Tom Coughlin was hired in 2004.
