Aaron Rodgers passed for 305 yards and four touchdowns as the Green Bay Packers rolled to a 34-17 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday night at Santa Clara, Calif.
Rodgers completed 25 of 31 passes before exiting for Green Bay (6-2), which has scored at least 30 points in all six of its victories. Davante Adams had 10 receptions for 173 yards and one touchdown while topping 150 receiving yards for the third time in six appearances this season.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling caught two touchdown passes, and Marcedes Lewis also had a scoring reception for the Packers, who put up 405 total yards. Green Bay controlled the ball for 36 minutes, 30 seconds while moving a game ahead of the Chicago Bears (5-3) in the NFC North.
Nick Mullens contributed 291 yards and one touchdown on 22-of-35 passing but also threw an interception and lost a fumble for San Francisco while starting in place of Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle). Star tight end George Kittle (foot) was among the list of players who missed the game for the 49ers (4-5), who dropped their second consecutive game.
Richie James caught a touchdown pass and established career highs of nine receptions and 184 yards for San Francisco, which is in last place in the NFC West. The 49ers gained 149 of their 337 yards in the final quarter.
Green Bay played without running backs AJ Dillon (positive COVID-19 test) and Jamaal Williams (high-risk contact of Dillon). Standout starter Aaron Jones (calf) was cleared shortly before kickoff and had 79 yards from scrimmage (58 rushing, 21 receiving).
The Packers started fast by moving 75 yards on six plays to start the game with Adams making a stellar 36-yard scoring grab just inside the left sideline of the end zone. The automatic review confirmed the touchdown.
Robbie Gould booted a 22-yard field goal with 47 seconds left in the quarter to get the 49ers on the board. However, Lewis caught a 1-yard touchdown pass to give Green Bay a 14-3 advantage with 7:01 left in the first half.
Valdes-Scantling made the first of his two scoring receptions when he ran a deep post pattern and got behind the defense for a 52-yard touchdown to boost the lead to 18 with 1:53 left before the break.
Rodgers teamed up with Valdes-Scantling for a 1-yard scoring pass to make it 28-3 with 7:17 left in the third quarter. Mason Crosby tacked on field goals of 19 and 53 yards to increase the margin to 31.
Mullens threw a 41-yard scoring pass to a wide-open James with five minutes to play, and Jerick McKinnon scored on a 1-yard run with four seconds left.
