Daniel Jones ran for the go-ahead touchdown with 5:31 left to play to lead the visiting New York Giants over the Jacksonville Jaguars 23-17 on Sunday afternoon.
Leading 17-13 and at the Giants' 20, Jacksonville went for a fourth-and-1 and came up short, turning the ball over on downs. Jones then led New York (6-1) on a 10-play, 79-yard excursion that resulted in the game-winning points.
A defensive pass interference penalty in the end zone set the Giants up at the Jaguars' 1 before Jones punched it in on a sneak play. Graham Gano added a 34-yard field goal to seal the victory.
The Jaguars (2-5) got the ball back with 1:04 remaining but couldn't score. Christian Kirk caught a pass inside the 1-yard line, but the New York defense prevented him from breaking the plane as time expired.
Jones finished with 202 yards and a touchdown on 19-for-30 passing. He added 107 rushing yards on 11 carries, with Saquon Barkley leading the ground attack with 110 yards on 24 touches.
Travis Etienne went for 114 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries for Jacksonville, which has lost four straight. Trevor Lawrence completed 22 of 43 passes for 310 yards, and Kirk had seven catches for 96 yards.
Etienne took a toss play 49 yards to the Giants' 24, leading to Lawrence's 1-yard sneak that put Jacksonville up 17-13 early in the third quarter. Riley Patterson's extra point attempt was blocked.
After Gano's 33-yard field goal pulled the Giants within 11-10, the Jaguars squandered an opportunity to give themselves some breathing room.
Jacksonville drove to the New York 17 and handed it off to Etienne, who rushed to the 5 and fumbled. Giants safety Julian Love recovered the loose ball in the end zone for a touchback, and Gano added another 33-yarder to send New York into the break with a 13-11 edge.
The Giants wasted no time getting their offense going, as Jones found Darius Slayton for a 32-yard touchdown to cap a nine-play, 75-yard opening drive.
The Jaguars immediately responded, using just six plays to march 70 yards. Etienne scored from 7 yards out and then rushed into the end zone for the two-point conversion.
