Stars 2, Ducks 0: Dan Ellis celebrated the one-year anniversary of his last shutout by making 26 saves as visiting Dallas blanked Anaheim.

Ellis, making his first start since Jan. 12, registered his 14th career shutout as the Stars halted their five-game road winless streak (0-4-1). Defenseman Trevor Daley had the game's only goal until captain Jamie Benn ran his goal-scoring streak to five games with an empty-net tally to give the Stars their second win in three meetings with the Ducks this season.

Jonas Hiller stopped 25 shots for Anaheim, which was blanked for the first time this season and suffered its third home defeat in five games after going 20-0-2 in its first 22 contests at the Honda Center.

The Stars broke the scoreless deadlock just past the five-minute mark of the second period on a great individual effort by Cody Eakin, who burst past Patrick Maroon and veered in on net. Hiller denied Eakin's shot, but a trailing Daley stuffed home the rebound.

Ellis, who played two seasons with the Ducks from 2010-12, preserved the slim lead by turning aside 12 shots in the final period for his first shutout since blanking Ottawa on Feb. 1, 2013. Benn sealed it by scoring into an empty net with 29 seconds left for his 22nd goal.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ducks RW Teemu Selanne played in his 1,432nd game to move past Scott Mellanby for 25th place on the all-time list. ... Daley's goal was his third in the last 10 games and fourth overall, matching his total from each of the last two seasons. ... Ducks C Nick Bonino (upper body), the team's third-leading scorer, sat out the contest after absorbing a heavy check from Philadelphia's Zac Rinaldo on Thursday. ... Anaheim D Mark Fistric, signed to a three-year contract extension earlier this week, exited with a lower-body injury.
