Kirill Kaprizov scored with 1:13 left in overtime to lift the visiting Minnesota Wild to a 4-3 win against the Los Angeles Kings in the season opener for both teams on Thursday night.
Kaprizov, a five-time All-Star in the KHL who was making his NHL debut, also had two assists.
Jonas Brodin, Victor Rask and Marcus Foligno also scored, and Cam Talbot made 31 saves for Minnesota, which went 0 for 6 on the power play, the last bridging the third period and overtime.
Jeff Carter had a goal and an assist, Andreas Athanasiou scored in his Los Angeles debut and Dustin Brown scored the 300th goal of his NHL career for the Kings in their first game in 10 months.
Anze Kopitar added two assists and Jonathan Quick made 23 saves for Los Angeles.
Kaprizov scored the game-winner on a breakaway after intercepting a pass from Brown in the neutral zone.
The Wild trailed 3-1 entering the third period, but received goals from Rask and Foligno to tie it up.
Rask scored on a wrist shot through traffic from the slot at 3:15, and Foligno slapped in a loose puck from in front of the crease at 9:42.
Carter scored in the final seconds of the first period to tie the score 1-1, and the Kings added two more goals in the second period to take the two-goal lead.
Athanasiou scored during 4-on-4 play to give Los Angeles a 2-1 lead at 7:12.
The Kings moved ahead 3-1 on a power-play goal by Brown at 17:05.
After a slow start in which both teams combined for just five shots on goal through the first 16 minutes, the Wild took a 1-0 lead at 16:06 of the first period on the goal by Brodin.
Kaprizov skated down the right side and cut to the middle. The puck was knocked off his blade, but went to Brodin coming through the left circle and he scored with a wrist shot.
Carter tied the score 1-1 with three seconds left in the opening period when he beat Talbot to a loose puck in the crease.
