Radim Zohorna and Sidney Crosby scored goals on Tuesday as the Pittsburgh Penguins locked down the third period in a 2-0 victory at Anaheim, ending the Ducks' six-game winning streak.
The Penguins held the Ducks off the scoreboard eight days after blowing a one-goal lead with 17 minutes remaining in a home loss to Anaheim.
Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry departed late in the second period after taking a hip to the helmet from Ducks forward Adam Henrique and immediately skating toward the locker room. Jarry made 21 saves in 38 minutes before Magnus Hellberg made 11 saves the rest of the way in the combined shutout.
Pittsburgh native John Gibson made 34 saves for the Ducks, who lost for the first time since Oct. 22. Anaheim was unable to mount a third-period comeback after rallying from a deficit five times in the final period during the win streak.
Mason McTavish, who scored two third-period goals to rally the Ducks past the Penguins 4-3 on Oct. 30, saw his seven-game point streak come to an end.
Zohorna scored 12:34 into the game when he flipped the puck toward Gibson from just behind the goal line to the right side of the net. The puck redirected off Gibson's pads and trickled across the goal line for Zohorna's third goal of the season.
Crosby scored into an empty net with 20 seconds remaining in the third on a backhanded shot from center ice. It was his sixth goal of the season and the 556th of his career, tying him with Johnny Bucyk for 28th all time.
Pittsburgh led after the opening period despite getting outshot 14-8. The Penguins picked up the intensity in the second period, holding a 17-7 advantage in shots, and they finished with a 36-32 edge for the game.
With the Ducks down 1-0, Anaheim's Troy Terry hit the far left post on a deflected shot with just under nine minutes remaining in the game.
The Penguins' Rickard Rakell finished with four shots on goal against his former team, just missing a second-period goal due to a pad save from Gibson.
The Ducks went 0-for-3 on the power play after going 6-for-11 in their previous four games, including 1-for-3 at Pittsburgh last week.
