With teammate Beck Malenstyn in the penalty box for holding, Tuch scored his second short-handed goal this season to give Buffalo the lead at 11:39 of the period. It was also the first short-handed goal allowed by Detroit this season.

Detroit grabbed a 2-1 advantage in the second.
With Buffalo's Owen Power in the penalty box for cross-checking, the Red Wings scored a power-play goal to tie the score at 7:49 of the period. From the right circle, Patrick Kane tipped the puck toward Larkin, who ripped a one-timer past Luukkonen.
Larkin's second power-play goal of the period came after Jack Quinn was whistled for delay of game. Larkin lifted a shot over Luukkonen's left shoulder off a feed from Alex DeBrincat. Lucas Raymond also picked up an assist on Larkin's seventh goal of the season.
